Guidelines after moving to Barcelona

After several years of assisting families relocating to Barcelona, we have compiled a list of essential everyday matters that we recommend addressing promptly to facilitate a smoother transition. The order in which these matters are addressed is not arbitrary, but some can be tackled concurrently or interchanged.

Today, we would like to share these guidelines with you.

Assuming that you have successfully resolved your residence permit situation, although we are available to assist with this matter if necessary, let us now focus on organizing life in Barcelona.

  • Buy a prepaid SIM card from any Spanish operator. Then, when you will be making a contract for mobile communications, you can change the operator while keeping the number.
  • Open a bank account
  • Find housing, and sign a rent agreement
  • Register in a rented apartment
  • Change the payer for the utility bill, if it is stated by your contract
  • Buy furniture and appliances for the apartment, if necessary
  • -If there are children, choose and enroll in a school
  • Sign an agreement for home Internet or Internet + mobile service
  • Issue state medical insurance card (CatSalut, TSI)
  • If there are children 4-16 years old, order a children’s travel card
  • Register IdCat

Next, each family has different tasks to do:

  • Someone is immediately establishing contact with a local clinic or looking for the necessary doctors on private insurance
  • Someone is buying a car, looking for parking
  • Someone is selecting a language school or other educational institution
  • Someone is looking for sections for children
  • Someone is searching for a household staff
  • Someone is looking for a veterinarian for their pet
  • Someone is looking for a tax lawyer to optimize their tax burden in the future
  • And someone is  selecting real estate for purchase

It can be overwhelming and stressful, so having someone who can guide and assist every step of the way can make a big difference in the success of the move. If you require guidance or support, you may submit a request for consultation and assistance here
