Multiple-child families

One, two, three, four, five… If you have three or more children in your family, this article is for you!

Multiple-child families — residents or citizens of Spain – can request a card confirming this status and use it to receive discounts at many places.

It’s very easy to obtain it:

1. Through the website gencat.cat, you can make an appointment at a convenient branch of the Office of Social Affairs and Families in Barcelona. You need to select the option “Títol de Família Nombrosa” (Large Family Title).
2. You should go to the specified address at the scheduled time and day, bringing the NIE (Identification Number for Foreigners) for all family members, the “Libro de Familia” (Family Book), and photocopies of these documents. If you don’t have the “Libro de Familia,” you can bring birth certificates of the children with a notarized translation into Spanish (and their copies).
3. In the office you fill out the application form.
4. After 15 minutes, you should receive cards for each family member confirming this status.

IMPORTANT! All family members must be registered at the same address.

• Discount on education, school cafeterias, sports sections, recreational activities (museums, theaters, etc.), summer camps, and more.
• Financial payments for newborns.
• Discounts on certain taxes (including IBI, ITP).
• Partial refund of rental expenses (returned when filing the annual tax declaration).
• Discount on contributions paid by multiple-child families to Seguridad Social for domestic personnel (nanny, housekeeper, etc.).
• Discount on vehicle registration tax for vehicles with 5-9 passenger seats.
