Authorización de regreso – a document for returning to Spain
It is issued upon request for those who already have a residency permit but it has expired and is in the process of being renewed. It is also issued when there is an initial application approval/fingerprints have been submitted, but the residency card has not been issued yet.
At the time of applying for this authorization, your current residency should be expired.
This document is valid for 3 months.
If the initial application for residency in Spain is still under review, you cannot obtain an Autorizacion de regreso.
This document does not grant you the right to stay in other EU countries. In other words, you must fly directly to your destination. If you have a layover in EU countries, the flight must be transit. Exiting the airport is not allowed.
What documents are required to obtain an Autorización de regreso:
-Confirmation of the submitted application for residency renewal OR Resolución favorable (approval)
-Expired TIE (Foreigner Identity Card) -Passport
-Application and paid fee
-Tickets (ideally round trip) within a 3-month period
